Podvertising
A recent entry on Steve Rubel's Micro Persuasion blog discusses the potential for "podvertising" -- using Apple iPods® as delivery vehicles for everything from audio spots, sponsorships, etc. Rubel believes that the expanding phenomenon of "podcasting" -- broadcasting media content via audio downloaded to an iPod® -- will eventually open up the medium for these "podvertisements."

Blogging goes business
Later this month (January 24-25), the first Blog Business Summit will be held in Seattle, WA. The summit has already captured the attention of the New York Times, as evidenced by this entry on the summit blog.
The article discusses the benefits of blogging for businesses, particularly as it relates to saving costs, getting immediate feedback from your customers, and interacting with your customers on a totally different level. The goal of the summit is to expand on these ideas and share new ways of using blogs in business.
On How to Blog for Fun & Profit!, blogger T. L. Pakii Pierce breaks down the advantages of using blogs for business in terms of information, reputation and communication.

Measuring blog popularity
One of the interesting features of blogs is the TrackBack -- a special notication designed to inform another blog when you've referenced one of its entries. Think of it as a courtesy notification that you liked the blog's content and wanted to share it with your blog's readers. Most blog platforms will tally TrackBack notifications from other blogs sourcing the original content, thus providing a blog editor with an idea of how popular his/her blog entry is in the blogosphere.
This article on the Micro Persuasion blog shares some other ways in which you can measure the popularity of your blog.

Viral marketing via the web and blogs

First "true" entry
Found this chart on Corporate Blogging and thought that it might be a good reference point to start from.
"The chart above (click on it to see a larger version) shows some of the organizations that are at the forefront of the corporate blogging wave. In addition to the big corporate names and the bloggers at companies involved in the blogging space, there are a large number of individual consultants, small business owners, and individual CxO bloggers - about 3,000 that we have identified as of October 2004 - which fill the 'other' category. These are folks who are blogging about what is going on at their businesses, but either because of the small number of people at the business, or the small number of bloggers at the individual business, we aggregated them into a single category."
